The calmest order to set up a theme

If you're not sure where to start with the shadcn/ui create plugin, this order usually feels the calmest:

  1. Pick your theme and mode (light or dark).
  2. Set your typography (font and scale).
  3. Choose your icon set.
  4. Tweak radius last, to get the right shape language.

That way you lock in the big decisions first, then fine-tune the feel.

Why it's safe to experiment

The plugin only edits values inside the existing variable modes in the file. When you change something, it updates the values in the mode column (Light or Dark, for example), not the components directly.

You can open the Variables panel in Figma at any time and see exactly what changed. Nothing is hidden or stored somewhere else.

If something looks off

Use Figma's version history to roll back to an earlier state, or run the plugin again with your previous settings. Most issues come from renamed components, deleted variables, or very old copies of the file.

The full guide goes through each section of the plugin.
